First, let’s talk tomatoes for a minute.

I have to admit that I’m partial to tomatoes, from the tiny ones to the beef steak varieties and all in between. There was a time that I used to grow my own, and I had a dozen varieties in my greenhouse. They were beautiful and tasted incredible! I had big plans to collect a vast variety of tomato seeds from wherever I could, and grow them all. Needless to say, that has not happened yet. Although, I’m currently happy to frequent the farmer’s markets in search of the best heirloom tomatoes I can find and support the local farmers!

So, what exactly is a must for building the best loaded BLT sandwiches?

  • Fresh from the oven tasting white bread.
  • The juiciest and biggest tomatoes you can find.
  • Crispy Smoked Bacon.
  • Tender lettuce with a nice bite to it.
  • If you’re a traditional BLT connoisseur, a nice layer of mayonnaise, but if you want to load it with extra flavor, then a creamy jalapeno pimiento cheese is the way to go.

In our house, sandwich making has become a ritual that we look forward to. We start off by with gathering all of the tasty ingredients, including our favorite thick-sliced Farmhouse Hearty White bread, with zero high fructose corn syrup and no added colors. Next, I will make up a batch of creamy pimiento cheese, and get the bacon ready. My kids are still in debate whether or not the bread should be toasted, but we’re all agreed that a nice glass of cold milk is the best choice for a loaded BLT.
