Time to Eat – Black Sheep 5 Points
This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Fresh from Florida for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.
There are days that you just need to EAT amazing food and what better way than to eat local.
Living in Florida has it’s perks. Beaches, a lot of sunny days, the MILD winters just to name a few. Not only am I minutes from the beach, but I’m also minutes from some incredible hot spot restaurants. One restaurant in particular, the Black Sheep, which is located in Jacksonville’s historic 5 Points in Riverside, happens to be brilliant and was chosen as a “Fresh From Florida On The Menu” restaurant!
You know when you walk into a place to order and throughout the menu you see that they pride themselves on using local purveyors, you just know that you are in for a mighty fine treat. Because they do source from local and regional farmers and purveyors through out Florida, the taste and the quality of their food is at it’s peak.
You can’t beat local.
The atmosphere was welcoming and the staff were lovely. I must say though, that we did have a bit of a hard time deciding which tempting dish we were going try, so we tried a smorgasbord of Southern inspired dishes.
My personal favorite dish was the Florida Lobster Roll piled up with cilantro, jalapenos, brioche, market greens and herb salad! Hands down, the absolute best lobster I have ever had.
A very close second favorite, would be the Black Hog Farm Chicken with mustard spaetzle, broccolini, salsa verde, pinenuts and lemon. We really enjoyed such a variety of foods, including the Truffled Black Hog Farm Egg Toast with fontina cheese and a market greens salad, as well as their Farm to Spoon Soup of the Day which was a creamy potato and leek soup with bacon. The choices were hard only because I wanted everything on the menu, including the plate of Roast Beef with market greens, tomatoes, provolone cheese and chimichurri being taken to the table across from us.
The food was presented beautifully and the flavors left me wanting more.
Besides the fresh taste and quality of the food, what I love most about going to restaurants that serve locally grown ingredients, is the simple fact of supporting community!
