Ingredients

  • ½ cup Walnut pieces toasted
  • 1 Red Pear diced into bite size pieces
  • ½ cup dried Cranberries
  • ¼ cup Water
  • 1 tsp Honey
  • 1 tsp fresh Thyme leaves 1/2 tsp dried
  • Pinch of Salt
  • ¼ tsp Black Pepper
  • 2 – 3 tsp Aromatic Bitters
  • ½ cup Rum optional
  • Salemville® Amish Blue Cheese Crumbles
  • Loaf of your favorite Crusty Bread sliced into ½ slices (I used a Cranberry Walnut Country Loaf)

Instructions

  • In a dry skillet over medium heat, toast the Walnuts for about 2 – 3 minutes, remove from heat and set aside.
  • In a saucepan over medium high heat, add the Pears, Cranberries, Water, Honey, Thyme, Salt and Pepper. Bring to a boil and then turn down the heat to medium low, stirring occasionally. Cook for about 10 minutes, and until most of the liquid has evaporated. Pears should be just softened.
  • Add in the Toasted Walnuts, Aromatic Bitters and the Rum, cook for an additional 2 – 3 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside until ready to serve.
  • You can toast the bread in the oven at 350°F for about 8 – 10 minutes or until starting to turn golden. Alternatively, you can pop them in the toaster, and toast to your liking.

To Assemble:

  • Top off the toasted Bread with the Pears and Walnuts mixture, top off with a few crumbles of the Salemville® Amish Blue Cheese Crumbles and you’re all set.
  • Serve and Enjoy!

Notes

The Rum is completely optional (no substitution needed), but adds a layer of spicy flavor that tastes amazing with the Salemville® Amish Blue Cheese.
