All Purpose Baking Mix

A staple in my pantry …

All Purpose Baking Mix

All Purpose Baking Mix - Homemade Bisquick

You know the box, it’s yellow and has Bisquick written across the front. It’s great to have on hand and is in fact the used in my Sausage Cheese Balls – love love those tasty treats. I do still keep a back up, in-case-of-emergency yellow box handy, because my pantry would look odd without it – really, seriously odd.

BUT now I’m in love with my own home thrown together version of the All Purpose Baking Mix. OH wow, what a difference.

All Purpose Baking Mix - Homemade Bisquick

I recently decided to mix it up myself and see how it would be … I was pleasantly surprised to say the least. First of all, in this recipe, I know exactly what is going in it. Second, I can pronounce the ingredients that go in it. And finally, the taste it lends to the recipes are so much more flavorful and gorgeous.

I like to make up a batch every other week and store it in a wide-mouth glass jar with a clamp lid. It keeps well for about 2 – 3 weeks and can be used in place of Bisquick (or other store bought All Purpose Baking Mixes). I use it now for my Sausage Cheese Balls and mix up a batch of pancakes easily with 2 cups of All Purpose Baking Mix, 1 Egg and 2 cups of Milk…whisk together and voila – fluffy pancakes! Guess what’s for breakfast in this weekend! You can also use it to whip up a batch of Waffles … yup, that’s what I said.

So if you are unable to purchase Bisquick (or other All Purpose Baking Mix varieties) where you live, or simply out of your yellow box stand-by and need it for a recipe, or maybe you’re looking for a preservative free and healthier alternative to the store bought brands – Give this recipe a GO!

Five small piles of different white powders, including All Purpose Baking Mix, are arranged on a dark surface—each with a slightly different texture and shade, likely representing various common baking ingredients like flour, sugar, or starch.

        1. I just used this recipe to make some fudgy pudding cake and it went well. There’s still some left and I am planning to make some pan cakes. Thanks for this recipe.

          1. Hi Sarah!
Excellent questions and yes, it can! Similar to flour, if you place it in a freezer bag, squeezing out excess air, then either place in an additional airtight container or wrapped in a layer of aluminum foil, it can be frozen or refrigerated to give it a longer shelf life. As long as it’s kept airtight, you should be able to keep it for up to a year or even more in the fridge or freezer.
