Pickling Spice Blend
If you are like me, then having a few jars of homemade jams, jellies and pickled goodies are a highlight when you open that pantry door.
Creating your own spice blends are a great way to give your recipes a nice bit of personal flair and get things done your way. Want some kickin’ heat, add in some crushed chili flakes, or make it slightly sweet with a bit of sugar.
I love this simple yet punchy flavored Pickling Spice blend!
I’m a dill pickle kind of girl and have put together my own pickling spice blend that I think makes my dill pickles extra tasty. You can also use this pickling spice blend to pickle onions, okra, and just about any veggie that you want to preserve.
The best time to preserve your favorite veg of the season is when they are at their peak. Not only will they taste their best, but they will typically be priced at their lowest. So let’s get preserving and stock up on some pickled goodness.
Enjoy this spice blend and change it to suit your own needs!

Pickling Spice Blend
A great Pickling Spice Blend that can be used for pickling just about any veg you want, especially dill pickles!
Ingredients
- 1 Tbls Peppercorns
- 2 Tbls Mustard Seeds
- 1 Tbls Allspice berries
Instructions
- Mix all ingredients and place in an airtight jar, keep for up to 6 months in a cool, dry place.
- I add 1 - 2 tsp of the pickling spice blend to each pint jar. Then squeeze in all the goodies for picking.
Notes
If you want to add a bit of heat, you can add 1 tsp. crushed chili flakes to the mix. I usually triple this batch when I'm preserving large quantities. Can be stored in a dry, cool cupboard for up to 6 months.
